Carleton participates in the Islanders Hawaii Plein Air Painters events; a group of artists who document the life and landscapes of Hawaii.

Each February, hand-picked artists from the Mainland and Hawaii gather for five days of painting everything from Maui's pristine beaches to it's

"Plein air" painting is named for a French term meaning "painting outdoors."  It is a technique well-suited to Maui's lush landscapes and inspiring vistas.  The term referts to both the act of painting outdoors and the look of the resulting paintings, which capture the light and feel of the outdoor scene.
